History

Our founder, Kelly Garner, D.M.A., began her career as a music copyist & background vocalist eventually signing as an Exclusive Gospel Artist with George King, President of Diadem Records. She produced her first record with Ben Tankard and it released on Brentwood-Benson in 1995. After touring for several years as an artist, Kelly signed as an Exclusive Writer with Niles Borop at Centergy Music Group from 1998-2003. She received a Dove nomination for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year & BMI Most Performed Gospel Song for “I Stand Redeemed” in 2001. When Niles retired from publishing in 2003, Kelly started building her own publishing company, Yellow Tree Music Group, including constructing a Pro-Tools (vs.12) multi-track recording facility, Big Dog Studios (www.bigdogstudios.net). In 2014, Kelly finished a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Performance (Voice) with a cognate in Music Technology from Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. She then wrote a book for the NATS organization & Rowman-Littlefield Publications entitled “So You Want To Sing Country” & continues to present clinics at the Jazz Educators Network. Her first book of choral arrangements, “Yes & Amen” was released by Brentwood-Benson Publications in February of 2018. She presently serves on the MEIEA General Board of Directors & is now in her tenth year of teaching at Belmont University in the School of Music as Assistant Professor of Commercial Voice.
